LIGHT Promotes Urban Gardening in Communities

Fifty (50) students and twenty (20) parents participated in the “Leaves and Lives: Lamang ang may Kaalaman sa Halaman” project of LIGHT (Lead with Integrity and Good Governance for Holistic Transformation) Microfinance, Inc., on August 15, 2016 at Saint Francis National Highschool in Brgy., Halang, Binan, Laguna for the organization’s Balik Blessing Program under its Non-Financial Services.

The event included a discussion about the importance of urban gardening by one of LIGHT’s NFS Coordinators, Jose Ian Aguilar, followed by an urban gardening activity using the plants donated by the organization’s partner clients. The participants also signed the “Pledge to Make My Life a Blessing for the Earth,” as a symbolic commitment in making their community a greener place. This program is done in line with one of the organization’s core values, “Integrity of Creation.

“We wanted to make an impact to the students and to their parents so that the knowledge and skills they’ve learned during the activity can be passed on to their homes and communities. Urban gardening can be of big help to the community, especially economically. They can grow edible and medicinal herbs which they can make use of everyday,” said Aguilar.
