802 LIGHT (Lead with Integrity and Good Governance in Helping Communities for Holistic Transformation) partner- clients affected by Typhoon Nina received relief assistance on January 12-25, 2017 as part of the organization’s Disaster Relief Assistance project under its Non-Financial Services Program.
Typhoon Nina was dubbed as the strongest typhoon to hit Bicol in 10 years. It made a landfall in Catanduanes on December 25, 2016, during Christmas eve, and has also affected nearby provinces displacing a total of 602,770 people or at least 132,908 families.
The affected areas that received assistance from the LIGHT were Batangas, Naga, Iriga, Daet, and Legazpi. The distributed relief packages include: sugar, coffee, canned goods, and rice. Some partner- clients also received galvanized iron, coco lumber, and other such materials to help them with rebuilding their homes.
“Not only were our partner- clients so thankful for the help they’ve received from LIGHT, but our staff also felt blessed as they see how happy the people we’ve helped have been after the relief operations,” said Lani L. Berina, LIGHT Iriga Branch Manager.
