In a resounding display of commitment to safety in the workplace, the LIGHT Microfinance, Inc. Main Office organized a comprehensive Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) Training, held under the facilitation of Vincent Ann Tejada, HRDD Specialist – Staff Development and Edward M. Guevarra, HRDD Training Specialist, on February 2, 2024. This event, mandated by Republic Act No. 11058, underscored the company’s dedication to ensure the well-being of its employees.
The event commenced with an invigorating opening remark from the President, Noel B. Alipio, who emphasized the company’s resolve to learn from past experiences and strive for excellence. “We didn’t make it last year. But this year, we know we will reap the fruit of our harvest,” remarked Alipio. He highlighted the importance of continuous learning and the upcoming training to reignite the passion within each employee.
Edward Guevarra, HRDD Training Specialist, kicked off the training with insightful sessions on various topics including Fire Hazards under Republic Act 9514, Workplace Emergency Preparedness, and other related lessons. One noteworthy activity involved a visual demonstration where participants were tasked with counting scattered numbers, symbolizing the hazards of workplace disorganization. This exercise effectively conveyed the message that proper organization and housekeeping are imperative for a safe working environment.
One highlight of the event was an engaging question and answer portion, facilitated using Mentimeter, where LIGHT Calamba Branch emerged victorious, showcasing their knowledge and enthusiasm for workplace safety.
Following a nourishing meal shared amongst all LIGHT staff, the training resumed with Vincent Ann Tejada, HRDD Specialist – Staff Development, taking the lead. She delved into crucial modules covering Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Control (HIRAC), imparting valuable insights into identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing control measures. Additionally, she addressed the pressing issue of COVID-19 pandemic control and management, emphasizing the importance of adhering to safety protocols.
Furthermore, she elucidated the benefits provided by the Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC), underlining the company’s commitment to employee welfare beyond the confines of the workplace.
Concepcion P. Diana, Executive Director, concluded the event with heartfelt closing remarks, commending the dedication of all participants, particularly the HRD Department, for orchestrating a triumphant Crash Course on Occupational Safety and Health Training. “We have to value the most important asset – us,” she remarked, underscoring the paramount importance of prioritizing the safety of the employees. She encouraged everyone to not only retain the knowledge gained but also to embody it in their actions for the collective well-being.
As the event drew to a close, a palpable sense of unity and determination pervaded the atmosphere, resonating with the Executive Director’s words that prevention will always be better than curative measures. “Let us enjoy our journey together because we know that God is ahead of us.”
