Unsung Heroes: Tribute to Filipino Workers

When we were children, we enjoyed simple pleasures such as milk and playgrounds. This innocence slowly fades as we shoulder the responsibilities of adulthood, realizing that reality is tough and that we will eventually be pushed beyond our limits.

Education has always been an elusive dream for most Filipinos, but this never discouraged us from chasing our greatest desire, which is to have a good and sustainable life. This taught us the skills and abilities needed for success, where education is yet to be an option. For some who had the opportunity to finish academy, the reality became their biggest classroom where one lesson is very clear: “Hardships often prepare ordinary people into an extraordinary destiny” – C.S. Lewis

In the Philippines, making a living is as difficult as climbing a hill. Many families find it hard to make ends meet, and some of them lose hope and chose to suffer in the danger of their comfort zones. Despite of this, with sheer determination, Filipino workers always manage to shine even through the darkest of times.

Despite life’s uncertainties, some find comfort in their current circumstances, grounded where they were planted and raised. Others, fueled by the desire to have and be something more, chose to explore the world and leave the ease of their contentment; they seek purpose and find happiness in their existence as they try to pursue greater dreams. Towards an unknown and uncertain destination, these heroes were hoping to provide their families with better lives.

In the surviving feats of our country, these silent heroes tirelessly work to support their families, wishing to build a better future. Armed with strength, resilience, and determination, they explore the world of hard work, jumping into the diversity of job opportunities, ready to confront the challenges waiting along the way.

Filipino workers are unsung heroes driven by their selfless dreams and wishes. This Labor Day, let us not only acknowledge and celebrate the unwavering spirit of Filipino workers but also commit to support and uplift them, wherever they may be. Join us at LIGHT Microfinance, Inc., in honoring our nation’s heroesᅳhere and abroad.
