A Crying Generation Beneath the Rainfalls

The first half has passed. Another chapter has unfolded.

Time seems to move too quickly, and experiences turn into distant memories; countless moments of failure, the heavy weight of challenges, and the immeasurable depth of growth have all become wisdom we are bound to carry forward.

In the past six months, we have seen new beginnings, witnessed unselfish love, and watched how the sun slowly turned to rain. We were alarmed by rising economic challenges brought by poor decisions and national shortcomings. We were pushed back by differences during the local and national elections, divided by political opinions and viewpoints.

Yet in the swift passing of time, it feels as though the clouds are as heavy as our responsibilities—as Filipinos living beneath the lingering shadows of the freedom once fought for by our heroes.

Where has God led us? Are we now living in the freedom our heroes once died for—or are we still fighting for the liberty we’ve yet to fully experience?

This commemoration of the Independence we long sought after is both a remembrance of the desperate fight our ancestors endured and a cry for help—as we now carry the responsibility of fighting for the freedom of future generations, which this generation has begun to carelessly steal away.

The rain begins to fall, but we must remain steadfast—not only through the darkening days but also through the weight of responsibility and the ongoing call to liberation. We are witnesses to shifts—in nature and in the very nature of humanity. The world looms with the unknown, and it is in this uncertainty that we are called to remain firm in faith.

We are called not only to reflect and reminisce. As we step into the second half of the year, we are also called to respond to our responsibilities. We do not retreat. We rebuild the future. And it is not for ourselves, but for the generations yet to come.
