In a nation colonized and enslaved by other countries for so many years, freedom was something we fought to attain. Without it, we were birds with wings clipped by poverty; we were lions in the cage of corruption; and we were heroes discouraged by oppression.
We Filipinos were put on a leash.
From the moment we were born, we were thrust into a world where reality is never easy. Life, the greatest yet cruelest gift of all, presents us with challenges and opportunities to fight for our freedom. And those who came before us did so.
This Independence Day, we honor the bravery and sacrifices of our countrymen throughout history who fought for our liberty. The unwavering determination of our heroes has paved the way for the freedom we enjoy today. This day is not just a celebration of our nation’s independence but a reminder of the ongoing responsibility to protect and cherish our freedom.
Power must not overcome us. Positions must not hinder us. Freedom is what we deserve, and it can only be secured by fighting for it.
As we remember the history of our liberty, let us reflect on the true meaning of independence. It is not merely the absence of oppression but the presence of justice, equality, and opportunity. It is the ability to speak our minds, pursue our dreams, and live our lives without fear.
As part of the LIGHT Microfinance, Inc. family, we are driven to promote freedom, justice, equality, and opportunity not only within the organization but especially in the communities we are called to serve.
Let us come together as a community to celebrate our shared values and renew our commitment to the principles of liberty and justice for all. We can only do this if we lean on God, our Mighty Savior.
We will not be hindered by failures, nor will we be stopped by oppression. We will fight for our freedom until we fear no more. The Philippines is free, and so must we be.
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” – Galatians 5:1
