Finding Strength in the Storms

October often marks a season of change. The days grow shorter, the air turns cooler, and for us in the Philippines, this month is often remembered for its strong rains, powerful typhoons, and unexpected shifts in nature. As we look around, we are reminded that this is not just a season of transition but also a season of testing. Calamities such as floods, earthquakes, and other disasters highlight how fragile life can be and how uncertain our world sometimes feels.

Beyond the forces of nature, we also see the realities of human weakness—issues of neglect, unpreparedness, and broken systems that leave communities vulnerable. For many, October becomes a time of both resilience and lament. And yet, it is in these moments that the steadfast love of God shines even moreclearly. Storms may come, but they do not define us. They may shake the ground beneath our feet, but they do not remove the firm foundation we have in Christ. As Psalm 46:1 declares, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

For us as LIGHT family, October is not simply about weathering storms. It is about remembering who we are and what we are called to do. Our name carries a mission—to bring light into places of darkness, to offer hope in times of despair, and to walk alongside families and communities in need of both support and encouragement. In times when calamities strike, when systems falter, or when people feel abandoned, we are reminded that we are not just here to do work—we are here to live out God’s calling in tangible ways.

This season challenges us to reflect. October is not only a month of storms but also a month of preparation. Farmers know this as the time of harvest. Families begin to plan for the year’s end, saving and making room for what is to come. In the same way, we too are invited to look back on how far God has brought us, and to prepare our hearts and hands for what He is still calling us to do. The storms of life test our endurance, but they also shape our character. They push us to rely less on human strength and more on God’s grace.

The story of Noah is a powerful reminder during this season. Noah was given a vision in the midst of a corrupt and doubting world. He persevered, he obeyed, and he protected what mattered most—his family and his faith. And when the storm finally passed, his first act was gratitude, building an altar to the Lord in worship. In the same way, we are called to persevere when the world questions us, to stand firm even if we must stand alone, and to end every season not in fear or complaint, but in thanksgiving.

As a family, LIGHT continues to be strong not because we are free from storms, but because we face them together. Every challenge becomes an opportunity to strengthen our unity, deepen our compassion, and renew our faith. At work, this means protecting the well-being of our colleagues and serving our Partner-Clients with excellence even in hard times. At home, this means guarding the spiritual and emotional health of our families and making room for prayer, connection, and encouragement.

October, therefore, is not just another month on the calendar—it is a reminder. A reminder that storms are real, but God is greater. A reminder that systems may fail but God’s promises remain unbroken. A reminder that though the ground may shake, the Lord holds us secure.

As we step into the rest of this month, let us carry these truths in our hearts. May we see every trial as a moment to trust God more deeply. May we choose perseverance over fear, courage over compromise, and gratitude over despair. And above all, may we remember that we are never alone. Together as LIGHT family, we will continue to shine God’s love into the world, stand firm amid life’s storms, and hold fast to the assurance that His faithfulness never fails.
